A Fateful Encounter
Emma’s life took a drastic turn when she completely lost her sight. Unable to cope with her mounting medical needs and the specialized care a blind dog requires, her previous owners had to make the difficult decision to surrender her to a local humane society.
One day, Tori happened to see Emma’s picture on the Humane Society’s website. Even though she had absolutely no experience with blind dogs and hadn’t prepared a single thing at home—not even a bed—a sudden, powerful urge took over. Tori did something entirely spontaneous: she drove straight to the shelter early in the morning and sat in the parking lot for 30 minutes before they even opened, just to bring Emma home. Right after, she picked up her daughters from school and completely surprised them with their sweet new family member.
The Miraculous Adaptation of a Lovable “Roomba”
Despite her lack of vision, Emma amazed the entire family with her immediate confidence and ability to navigate her new home. Tori affectionately compares her to a “Roomba”. On her very first day, the little pup mapped out the house and successfully located her own food and water bowls, leaving the family incredibly proud and astonished.
Emma has a very peculiar habit: she almost exclusively spins and turns to the left. Vets believe this quirk is due to a neurological condition. While she is perfectly capable of walking in a straight line, the more excited she gets, the faster and faster she spins in circles to the left.
Because she cannot see, Emma relies heavily on her sharp senses of smell and hearing to locate her humans. Whenever Tori walks into a room, Emma can instantly sense her presence, scanning the air and tilting her head to figure out exactly where her mom is standing. Though she is a brave little dog who rarely gets startled, Emma is terrified of the vacuum cleaner and other loud, unusual noises. Additionally, having never attempted to climb the stairs, she contentedly waits at the very bottom for family members to come down and greet her.
The Pride of the Family
Emma is an incredibly calm and sweet dog with a rather “minimalist” approach to playtime. She doesn’t care much for toys, save for one exception: a pink plush dragon that originally belonged to Tori’s daughter. That single dragon is her ultimate treasure, and the only toy she ever tries to play with.
Emma’s arrival has brought immense joy to Tori’s daughters. The girls are incredibly proud of her and love showing her off to their friends and teachers at school. In fact, Emma has become a bit of a school celebrity, to the point where classmates often say, “Oh, I’ve heard about her!”. Whenever the girls have a creative writing assignment or a story to share in class, Emma is always the star of the show.
