‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Melrose Place’ actor dies at 57

Patrick Muldoon, recognized for his performances in Days of Our Lives, Melrose Place, and Starship Troopers, has passed away at the age of 57 following a heart attack.

As reported by TMZ, Patrick Muldoon died after an incident at his home in Beverly Hills. His sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, mentioned that he had been enjoying coffee with his girlfriend on Sunday morning before heading off to take a shower.

His girlfriend grew worried when he took longer than usual and went to check on him, discovering him unconscious on the bathroom floor. Paramedics were called right away, but despite their attempts to revive him, he could not be saved.

Muldoon’s career took off early when he secured a role in the sitcom Who’s the Boss? while still in college. He later appeared in Saved by the Bell as Jeffrey Hunter before achieving greater fame in daytime television.

Austin Reed in Days of Our Lives

He became a well-known figure on Days of Our Lives, portraying the character Austin Reed from 1992 to 1995 and making a return from 2011 to 2012.

“It felt like going back to high school,” he reflected on his return to Days of Our Lives. “It’s odd, but you really want to pinch yourself. The same people are still around, and the colleagues I enjoyed working with in the ’90s are still a joy to work with today.”

He also took on the role of the antagonist Richard Hart on Melrose Place from 1995 to 1996.

On the big screen, he is likely best remembered for his portrayal of Zander Barcalow in the 1997 cult classic sci-fi film Starship Troopers.

“I’ve always been a fan of comic books,” he shared in 2012. “I’ve loved that [science fiction] genre since I was a kid. Being able to play these kinds of roles as an adult is truly a delight for me.

He kept up a steady pace in film and television during the 2000s and 2010s, with credits such as Marlowe, Vanquish, Dakota, and Murder at Hollow Creek.

In addition to acting, Muldoon took on the role of producer, working on various projects through his company, Storyboard Productions. He was also involved in upcoming films like Kockroach, featuring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, and Zazie Beetz.

At the time of his passing, he remained active in the industry, with his last film, Dirty Hands, set to be released later this year.

He is survived by his partner, Miriam Rothbart, his parents, and his sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, along with her family.
