Unlike the countless gym memberships that go unused or workout clothes that never make it out of the closet, one man actually followed through on his goal.James Stewart Whyte decided to keep things simple by committing to one clear challenge, which was to complete 100 pushups every day for a full year.It is the kind of plan many people begin with good intentions, only to miss days or give up after a few weeks, but James stayed consistent and saw it through.

He explained that he chose pushups because they required no gym membership, no travel time, and no special equipment, which made the habit easier to maintain day after day.“I wasn’t asking myself to do something daily that I had to explicitly schedule and prepare for in advance,” he said.So what actually happened once he stuck with it?

 

 

Since the goal was to build a lasting habit rather than chase fast results, James said it was expected that progress would take time to become visible.“The progress I made was slow,” said James.

“After the first few months of the year I saw an almost imperceptible change, progress started to show entering the summer.”

He added: “Around this time was when other people started to notice as well.I was building muscle and becoming stronger, and the daily workouts were becoming easier.”While the changes were not immediate, once they began to appear they became easier to notice and measure.And to be clear, this was not a dramatic overnight transformation into a professional wrestler’s physique, but the improvements were still meaningful and clearly earned.

 

 

James said: “Mid year I checked in on my progress, although results were modest, they were there, and it proved that after you establish a new habit you have to give that habit time to work before you see the results.”It is a clear reminder that progress does not always come from extreme routines, and that steady, repeatable actions can add up to real change over time.
