California Woman Gets Flooded With Amazon Packages For Over A Year After Chinese Seller Uses Her Address

A woman from California, known only as Kay, has been dealing with an unexpected flood of Amazon packages for over a year. The situation has gotten so out of hand that she’s had to stack the boxes along her driveway just to keep her property somewhat organized. The packages have been arriving at such a steady pace that now her yard is stacked with parcels reaching chest height. It’s gotten so extreme that she can’t even park her car in the driveway anymore.

“It’s just been another form of hell.” Kay shared with ABC 7 during an interview. The chaos has been linked to a Chinese-based Amazon seller named Liusandedian. They sell imitation leather car seat covers that don’t seem to fit the vehicles they’re advertised for. As a result, unhappy customers have been returning the items but not to China.Instead of going back to the seller overseas, the returned seat covers have been landing right at Kay’s front door in California.

What started as a single unexpected package that Kay figured was a delivery mistake quickly snowballed. Within weeks, more and more boxes began showing up. That trickle turned into a flood that’s continued for over a year, with Kay’s doorstep gradually getting swallowed up in cardboard.

“What you see now is a fraction, because I have refused delivery on more packages than you see here.” she explained. The mountain of packages has become such a huge issue that when Kay returns home, she sometimes can’t even help her 88-year-old mother reach the front door without clearing a path through the towering boxes first.

Despite reaching out to Amazon multiple times, Kay said she received little to no support. She claimed she opened at least six complaint tickets, but none of them resulted in a real solution.“Every time I was absolutely assured this will stop.” she told ABC 7. “‘You won’t get any more of these packages, you’ll hear from us in 24, 48 hours.'”

At one point, Amazon offered her a $100 gift card as a way of saying sorry for the trouble. But Kay said they also made it clear that getting rid of the packages was her job. They even suggested she donate the items or try mailing them back herself.Frustrated by the situation, she asked the company “Why is it my responsibility to get rid of this, when your seller is not following your rules, Amazon?” pointing out that Liusandedian appeared to be ignoring Amazon’s own policies.

According to Amazon’s rules, international sellers must do one of three things when it comes to returns: provide a U.S. return address, offer a prepaid return label, or simply issue a refund without needing the product sent back. If they don’t respond within two days, Amazon can refund the buyer and charge the seller. But Liusandedian, which doesn’t seem to have much of a presence online beyond its Amazon listings, appears to have avoided the rules by using Kay’s home address as its return location.

Amazon denied that they told Kay to handle the mess on her own. However, they finally sent someone out on Wednesday to pick up the mountain of packages. They also reassured her once again — that no more of Liusandedian’s seat covers would be showing up at her house.“We’d like to thank ABC 7 for bringing this to our attention. We’ve apologized to the customer and are working directly with her to pick up any packages while taking steps to permanently resolve this issue.” the company told the news outlet.
