Natural Remedies for Ear Discomfort and Blockages
Experiencing ear discomfort, muffled hearing, or a feeling of fullness can be frustrating. While earwax protects the ears from dust and infection, excessive buildup may cause blockages. Fortunately, natural remedies can help.
1. Basil Leaf Infusion:
Basil has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits. Boil fresh basil leaves in water, let cool, then crush and extract the juice. Soak a cotton ball and place it at the ear’s entrance (do not insert). This may reduce swelling and discomfort.
2. Hydrogen Peroxide:
Mix equal parts of 3% hydrogen peroxide and water. Tilt your head and place a few drops into the ear using a dropper. Wait 5 minutes, then tilt to drain. This softens and loosens wax.
3. Warm Compress:
Apply a warm, damp cloth over the affected ear for 10–15 minutes. This can relieve pressure and encourage drainage.
4. Olive Oil Drops:
Warm olive oil to body temperature and place a few drops in the ear. Lie on your side for 5–10 minutes. This softens wax for easier removal.
When to See a Doctor:
Seek medical care if symptoms persist, worsen, or include pain, discharge, or hearing loss. Never insert objects into the ear canal.
These remedies support ear health but always consult a professional when needed.
