Cynthia Erivo has left fans baffled with her response to a journalist saying that people are “holding space” for the song ‘Defying Gravity’.

Erivo and Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda the Good Witch, recently sat down with Out.com reporter Tracy E. Gilchrist to promote the movie.
At one point in the interview, the journalist brought up the beloved tune ‘Defying Gravity’ and how much it means to fans of the musical.
“I’ve seen, this week, people are taking the lyrics of ‘Defying Gravity’ and really holding space with that. And feeling power in that,” she said during part of the interview, which was shared on social media.
Watch the interview below:
The Harriets actress was surprised by the comment and put her hand on her chest. She then responded: “I didn’t know that was happening.”
After Gilchrist reiterated that she’s “seen” fans discuss the song, Erivo added: “That’s really powerful. That’s what I wanted.”
The Grammy-winning star then looked at Grande, 31, who nodded and held her finger. “I didn’t know that was happening,” Erivo continued to share, to which Gilchrist responded: “I’ve seen it on a couple posts. I don’t know how widespread. But I am in queer media, so.”
“That’s really cool,” Erivo added.

The clip has quickly gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), with people expressing their confusion about the conversation and the interviewer’s comment about the song.
One confused person wrote: “I’m completely mesmerized by this clip.. it’s almost like they are speaking a language I don’t understand. I can’t catch the sense of it for a single moment. I’m not understanding the words or the feelings or the energy at all. It’s amazing.”
Another said: “I can’t tell what my favorite part of this video is: the solemnity in announcing people have been ‘holding space’ for the lyrics of a 20-year-old song, Cynthia acting like she personally wrote it, Ariana holding onto Cynthia’s index finger, or the reveal of ‘a couple of posts.'”
“I’ve watched this like 30 times, and I still can’t parse a single thing going on here,” a third added.

This is not the first time Erivo has made headlines during the Wicked press tour.
Last month, she responded strongly to a fan who edited the Wicked poster, which showed Elphaba (Erivo) looking directly at the camera, while Glinda (Grande), is whispering in her ear.
Many fans of the Broadway musical were not content with the new poster and felt that it had lost its impact. They decided to flood their social media with photoshopped corrections that more closely resembled the original Broadway illustration.
The edited promotional poster instead raised Grande’s hand to cover more of her face and covered up Eviro’s eyes entirely.

The Tony Award-winning actress didn’t hesitate to hit back at fans on her Instagram Story, writing: “This is the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen… None of this is funny. None of it is cute. It degrades me. It degrades us.
“The original poster is an ILLUSTRATION. I am a real-life human being, who chose to look right down the barrel of the camera to you, the viewer… because, without words, we communicate with our eyes,” she slammed.
When asked later about her reaction to the poster during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the star explained that she is “really protective” of her role.
“I’m passionate about it and I know the fans are passionate about it and I think for me it was just like a human moment of wanting to protect little Elphaba, and it was like a human moment,” Erivo concluded.

On Friday (November 15), Jake Paul defeated the 58-year-old former world heavyweight champion in what was arguably the biggest boxing event of the century.
The eight-round contest, which was streamed for free on Netflix, was scored 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in favor of the controversial YouTuber-turned-boxer.
According to the streaming service, the clash between the stars drew a massive global audience, with 60 million households tuning in, BBC reported.
The viewership peaked at 65 million concurrent streams, per The New York Post.

However, the technical difficulties that occurred during the match has now sparked a big-money class action lawsuit against the streamer.
Many viewers expressed their frustration with the frequent glitches and buffering issues that plagued the stream before and during the fight.
According to Down Detector, nearly 85,000 users reported problems with outages or difficulties leading up to the major event.
As per TMZ, a subscriber named Ronald “Blue” Denton, from Florida, has decided to take legal action against the company.
The man claimed that Netflix was guilty of breach of contract over the frequent glitches during the highly-anticipated boxing match, and is seeking damages of at least $50 million on behalf of millions of affected viewers.
“60 million Americans were hyped to see ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ versus Youtuber-turner-prizefighter Jake Paul. What they saw was ‘The Baddest Streaming on Planet,’” the lawsuit notes, cited by The New York Post.
It was alleged that many reportedly missed portions of the fight due to the constant interruptions.
“Netflix customers experienced massive streaming issues and should have known better because it’s happened before. They were woefully ill-prepared,” the lawsuit added.
Citing “over 100,000 people complaining online,” the court filing claimed that “boxing fans, along with the average Americans wanting to see a legend in what would most likely be his last fight, were faced with legendary problems, including: no access, streaming glitches and buffering issues”.

Netflix issued a statement, acknowledging that the quality of its stream during the bout was subpar.
“This unprecedented scale created many technical challenges, which the launch team tackled brilliantly by prioritizing stability of the stream for the majority of viewers,” Netflix executive Elizabeth Stone said, per Daily Mail.
“I’m sure many of you have seen the chatter in the press and on social media about the quality issues,” she continued. “We don’t want to dismiss the poor experience of some members and know we have room for improvement but still consider this event a huge success.”

Influencer shocks viewers with intimate tattoo on her genitals

By Nasima Khatun
An influencer has shocked listeners after she revealed an intimate tattoo on her genitals.
Sammy Robinson recently made a shocking confession that has left fans wondering what she was thinking going through with it in the first place.
Speaking on an episode of the Happy Hour with Lucy and Nikki podcast, the 28-year-old recalled the time that she went out for a boozy lunch with her friends and they decided to get some tattoos to honor an ongoing tradition they have.
Sammy mentioned that she had always wanted to get a bold design, one that would stand out amongst the rest. One time she opted to get a jaguar on her spine, but ultimately “chickened out” at the last minute.
However, she did decide to go with something else altogether and placed it right on her v*gina.
And what did she think was cool enough for the area? A dragon, of course.
“No reasoning behind it but now I’m the girl with the dragon tattoo,” she joked before adding: “It’s really small.”
Sammy initially rose to fame sharing snippets of her life online. From beauty tips to general lifestyle vlogs, she boasts over 316,000 followers on TikTok and a further 619,000 on Instagram, making her one of Australia’s most popular beauty influencers.
Speaking to Vogue Australia, she opened up about what it’s like to have such a big platform.
When questioned about her secret to success, she explained that authenticity is key.
“Just do you. Everyone else is already taken. There is no point being someone that you’re not, it sounds cliche but truly people will be able to tell if you’re in it for the wrong reasons or if you’re being fake for the fame,” she said during the interview. “Find your passion and just do whatever makes you happy… not just what is trending.”
She continued: “I have always just tried to be myself. I was definitely far more shy towards the beginning but your audience will resonate with who you are as a person… not just what makeup you’re putting on your face!”
As for what got her into the beauty scene, she said that she took inspiration from other influencers who started before her.
“I started watching a few beauty influencers, Chloe Morello being one of them! And I have been obsessed with makeup before I could even walk. So I decided to try uploading a tutorial of my own and it just took off immediately,” she recalled.
And now she travels the world and spends time doing the things she loves while continuing to grow her platform off the back of it.

Infamous artwork of banana taped to wall sells for $6.24 million at auction

By Nasima Khatun
The infamous artwork involving a banana and some random piece of tape has been sold – and you’l never believe for how much.
Branded as one of the boldest moves in modern art, Maurizio Cattelan’s ‘Comedian’ sold for a staggering $6.24 million at a Sotheby’s auction.
This peculiar, but highly sought after piece, debuted at Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2019 and quickly escalated from a quirky exhibit to a global phenomenon… and we’re still not quite sure why.
The artwork consists of a banana taped to a wall with a strip of silver duct tape, placed precisely 160 centimeters from the floor and that’s all it took for it to become “the most talked-about artwork of the century.”

Initially expected to fetch around $1.5 million, the piece’s allure skyrocketed as it went viral, prompting Art Basel to remove it due to the large crowds it attracted.
At one point, someone even took the banana and ate it, according to a report by NBC News.
David Galperin, Sotheby’s head of contemporary art for the Americas, highlighted that ‘Comedian’ marked Cattelan’s first inclusion in an art fair in 15 years and immediately became a hit in a video posted by the establishment.
Lucius Elliot, head of contemporary marquee sales at Sotheby’s also noted that it became a topic of debate as it’s popularity grew.
News outlets debated “whether this is art, whether it is a prank, whether it is a symbol of the excess of the art market,” Elliot said. “In truth, it is, of course, all of those things.”
Experts have somewhat come to the conclusion that the artwork is meant to be funny, but they said it also comes across quite as pretentious and sometimes even ridiculous.
For example, Cattelan “is presenting a work that mocks the very notion of art having this degree of value,” Elliot said, adding that while it is just a banana and duct tape, “it’s value is in its conceptual heft.”
“The important thing to know about Maurizio is that his jokes are serious and his serious work is funny,” Dodie Kazanjian, an editor for Vogue, said in the video, adding: “There’s something very deep in what Maurizio does, so the veneer of it might look like a banana, but there’s something else always at the core of what he’s saying.”

Emmanuel Perrotin, founder of Perrotin, the gallery where the piece was first displayed, initially tried to sell the piece off for an undisclosed amount prior to it’s debut. It was rejected, but three days later, he received a message from a different buyer who offered to pay seven times that price.
With that, Perrotin noted: “Imagine the change of perception created by the way it was received by the audience.”
I mean, there’s an undisclosed price and then there’s $6.24 million.

Netflix sued over ‘unwatchable’ Jake Paul/Mike Tyson boxing event

Netflix has founds itself against the ropes following a its livestream of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match on Friday night.

Taking place in front of around 72,000 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Friday night, Tyson’s return to the ring for his first professional fight in 19 years was one of the most highly anticipated bouts in the history of the sport.
In fact, Netflix has since reported that the event drew an estimated average minute audience (AMA) of 108 million live viewers globally, peaking at 65 million concurrent streams, with 38 million of those from the U.S. alone, per Variety.
However, rather than seeing the legendary “Iron” Mike Tyson KO a cocky 27-year-old YouTuber, Paul was declared the winner by unanimous judges’ decision following eight two-minute rounds.
Of course, during the night of boxing – which saw a total of seven matches on the card – many viewers were seen staring at a rotating red circle, as they battled with buffering issues during Netflix’s stream.

As a result, not only were many viewers vowing to cancel their subscriptions, but now one viewer has taken legal action
Ronald “Blue” Denton from Hillsborough County, Florida, has filed a lawsuit against the streaming giant for what he claims was an “unwatchable” experience due to severe streaming issues.
Filed in Florida state court this past Monday, the lawsuit not only seeks unspecified monetary damages but also aims for class-action status, potentially roping in other disgruntled subscribers affected by the fiasco.
The complaint accuses Netflix of breach of contract and deceptive trade practices under Florida law, as reported by WFLA-TV. Denton’s argument is rooted in the claim that Netflix was “woefully ill-prepared” to manage the overwhelming viewer demand during the Paul-Tyson showdown.

“Instead of providing the programming its viewers pay for every month, Netflix was completely unprepared and unable to fix the issues,” the lawsuit states.
The lawsuit sharply criticizes Netflix, referencing their promotional material, stating, “60 million Americans were hyped to see ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ versus YouTuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul. What they saw was ‘The Baddest Streaming on the Planet.’”
This isn’t the first time Netflix has faced issues with live events. Earlier in April 2023, the platform’s “Love Is Blind” reunion special was delayed by 19 hours due to similar streaming troubles, hinting at ongoing challenges within Netflix’s capabilities for handling live broadcasts.

“Netflix customers experienced massive streaming issues and should have known better because it’s happened before,” Denton’s lawsuit states.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Netflix has yet to make a formal response to the allegations, Variety reports.

Liam Payne’s funeral is taking place today

By Asiya Ali
Liam Payne’s funeral is set to take place today, just over a month after the singer tragically died at the age of 31.
The beloved One Direction star fell to his death from a third-floor balcony of the Hotel CasaSur in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires on October 16.

Authorities pronounced Payne dead at the scene, saying he had suffered a “very serious injury” to the base of the skull, The Guardian reported.
The forensic medical corps also concluded that the ‘Strip That Down’ star’s tragic passing was caused by “multiple traumas” and “internal and external hemorrhage” resulting from the fatal fall.
In addition to this, toxicology tests found that when he died, Payne had traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his body, according to prosecutors.

The ‘Teardrops’ vocalist will be laid to rest today (Wednesday, November 20) at a service held in the Home Counties.
The ceremony will be closed to the public, attended by just his parents, two sisters, Nicola and Ruth, Cheryl, the mother of his seven-year-old son Bear, his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, and his closest friends.
His four One Direction bandmates: Louis Tomlinson, 32, Niall Horan, 31, Zayn Malik, 31, and Harry Styles, 30, are expected to be among those paying their respects.
According to The Sun, one person is “not welcome” at the funeral, and that’s Payne’s manager Roger Nores.
“Liam’s family want his funeral to go off without a hitch and right now opinions are strained when it comes to Roger,” an insider close to the situation reportedly told the outlet. “It’s true he and Liam had a bond but he’s never been popular when it comes to Liam’s wider circle.
“There is a difference in the narrative, Roger would say he stepped back from working with Liam – others would say he was pushed,” he said, adding that the late star’s loved ones had no idea the duo had “reconnected” until Payne’s “fateful trip to Argentina last month.”
“Due to the ongoing investigation in Argentina, he’s not welcome at this week’s service,” the source added.

The ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ singer’s sudden death sent shockwaves around the world.
In a group statement following his death, the late singer’s bandmates said they were “completely devastated”, and will miss Payne “terribly”.
“In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly,” they said,
“The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam,” One Direction concluded.
An investigation has been launched into Payne’s death by prosecutors, and three people have been charged in connection with the incident.
