Kelli Tarin, a mother of three in west Texas, turned to a Facebook group for help after discovering mysterious piles of brown particles in her daughter’s room, which she described as looking like coffee grounds. She was concerned it might be a pest problem and contacted her landlord and multiple pest control companies, but both companies said they had never seen anything like it.
Online, commenters suggested everything from flying ants to rat droppings, and Tarin considered mice, roaches, bats, and termites as possibilities, but nothing matched the crunchy, seed-like texture of the piles.
She temporarily prevented her child from sleeping in the room and pursued pest treatment, yet the mystery persisted until a comment on her post pointed out a stuffed lavender bear her child had opened. Upon investigating, Tarin discovered the piles actually consisted of the beads inside the toy. She laughed for thirty minutes, relieved to realize there were no pests at all, turning what had been a stressful situation into a humorous story she could share.
