Her body was itchy, he thought it was an allergy

For 32-year-old Laura Gómez, a busy mother, the relentless itching began as a mild irritation. She initially brushed it off, assuming it was an allergic reaction to soap, food, or detergent. To be cautious, she made lifestyle changes—switching soaps, eliminating certain foods, and even seeing a dermatologist.

The doctor prescribed topical creams and antihistamines, but nothing brought relief. Day by day, the itching intensified. It interrupted her sleep, drained her energy, and wore her down emotionally.

“It was unbearable,” Laura shared. “It felt like something was crawling under my skin. I scratched until I bled, but the itch wouldn’t stop.”

Despite her efforts, the condition worsened. Her skin became inflamed and raw, and she began to worry that something more serious was going on.

As her symptoms persisted, Laura sought out specialists and underwent a series of tests. After months of misdiagnoses and frustration, doctors finally discovered the real cause—an internal liver condition that had nothing to do with allergies.

The itching, known as pruritus, was a symptom of a rare liver disorder. Once diagnosed, she was started on the appropriate treatment plan.

The change was dramatic. With proper medication and care, the itching began to subside, and Laura could finally sleep again.

Laura’s experience is a reminder to listen to your body and advocate for yourself when something feels wrong. A persistent symptom, even something as simple as itching, can be a sign of a deeper issue that shouldn’t be ignored.
