Cowboy Hat Hero Tackles Armed Robber in Mexican Butcher Shop
A dramatic robbery attempt in Monterrey, Mexico, turned into a viral sensation after CCTV footage captured a gunman being overpowered by a calm customer in a cowboy hat.
The video shows the masked robber entering Carnes Cares, a butcher shop and convenience store, pulling a handgun on the cashier. Despite the threat, the woman behind the counter barely reacts, shielding her face with a notebook before reaching for the phone.
The gunman then points the weapon at an older man in a cowboy hat, later identified as Reynaldo Cárdenas, the shop’s co-owner. Remaining remarkably composed, Reynaldo bides his time until the robber turns toward another customer. Seizing the moment, he lunges forward, grappling with the suspect until the gun drops.
Butchers rush to assist, securing the firearm and pinning the robber as he tries to flee shirtless after slipping out of his hoodie. Police arrived about 10 minutes later, arresting the suspect.
Reynaldo’s son, Daniel Cárdenas, confirmed the footage was real, noting his father admitted he was “terrified” but acted instinctively.
“I’m just glad he wasn’t hurt,” Daniel said.
The video has since drawn tens of thousands of views online, with many hailing Reynaldo as a local hero.
