One clue Lucy mentioned is when someone wears a black ring specifically on their right hand.

“One other that I’ve heard is there’s a black ring on your right hand,” she said.

Lucy isn’t the only one who’s brought up the possible meaning behind wearing a black ring. The idea has been talked about in various Reddit threads and even on the polyamory-focused podcast, Life on the Swingset, where the black ring on the right hand is often linked to non-monogamous relationships.That said, Lucy also pointed out that not everyone wearing a black ring is part of the swinging or polyamorous scene. Sometimes, someone might just like the way the ring looks or find it fits their right hand best.

“But that’s a little bit more inconspicuous because can you imagine if you went up to someone and you’re like, ‘Hey, I can see that black ring on your right hand’ and they are like, ‘Yeah, it’s just a black ring’.” she said.

 

 

It’s important to note that wearing a black ring doesn’t always carry the same meaning. For example, black rings worn on the middle finger are actually recognized as a symbol of asexuality (as referenced by Kent State).
