The position, nicknamed ‘hamstering’, thankfully has nothing to do with harming animals, but the name alone has raised eyebrows.The odd label comes from the unusual way people are positioning themselves—or better said, contorting their bodies—when attempting it.According to content creator @jenn_nniffer, who filmed a toned-down demonstration inside her car, the trend involves a man climbing onto the roof and dangling his penis through the sunroof for his partner inside the car to access.

The person inside the vehicle is then expected to stretch upward to perform oral sex, imitating the way a hamster drinks water from a bottle. It’s this awkward image that gave the trend its unusual name.Cybersecurity expert Robert Siciliano has now explained why this stunt is especially dangerous and why people should think twice before even considering it.He noted that phrases like ‘hamstering’ and ‘thirsty hamster’ have already gone viral across platforms, pulling in millions of views and spreading quickly among impressionable audiences.

“Viral content doesn’t mean safe content,” he warned. “Many users, especially teens, are influenced by what’s trending without questioning the danger.”He also pointed out that some automakers, including Tesla, have issued safety warnings about injuries that could happen if people try stunts like this. As VICE reported, the company strongly advises against putting body parts through the sunroof due to risks from moving parts, flying debris, or even low-hanging branches.

What car makers probably never expected was having to warn against possible accidents involving people’s genitals. The risks are obvious—if someone accidentally presses the close button on the sunroof or shifts the handbrake mid-act, it could lead to catastrophic injuries.

Even Jennifer herself admitted the position is impractical. She highlighted how physically difficult it is to pull off, especially unless both partners happen to be extremely flexible or skilled in yoga-like movements.She also raised a practical issue—car paintwork could easily get scratched if belt buckles, zippers, or other clothing hardware scrape against the vehicle during the stunt.And beyond the physical strain or damage to the car, people cheering the trend online seem to forget that the US has strict laws on indecent exposure. Getting caught could easily result in misdemeanor charges or, in some cases, even felony accusations.

Legal penalties vary across the country, but jail time can stretch from six months to a year in many states. In Pennsylvania, the punishment can be up to two years, while in Texas it may be as little as 180 days, according to Justia.In California, those convicted of indecent exposure could even be forced to register as sex offenders, which would have a lifelong impact on someone’s record.All in all, when you add up the physical risks, the legal dangers, and the sheer impracticality, it’s hard to see how this so-called trend is worth anyone’s time.
