This morning started like any other with coffee and emails, but something on the wall immediately caught my eye. About 8 centimeters long, pinkish, soft-looking, and irregular in shape, it looked somewhere between foam insulation and chewed gum, and definitely wasn’t there yesterday.
I first assumed it was leftover construction material or caulking residue, but no work had been done recently. Curious, I poked it and found it slightly firm yet spongy, neither sticky nor dry, as if it had just appeared. I snapped a photo and asked around, and the leading theories ranged widely.
Some suggested it might be an insect egg sac or cocoon, perhaps from a moth, spider, or wasp, which made me uneasy; others thought it could be a type of fungus or slime mold, though its isolated position seemed unusual; a few guessed it might be rogue spray foam insulation, but the color didn’t match; some even speculated it could be animal-related, like regurgitated material from a rodent or bird, though I hadn’t noticed any wildlife in the house; and, of course, a handful of people jokingly proposed paranormal explanations, which was just creepy.
So far, I’ve taken high-resolution photos, left it untouched, monitored it for changes, and checked for entry points, leaks, or insects, finding nothing. I haven’t removed it yet, keeping a ziplock bag taped beneath just in case anything falls. I’m hoping it’s harmless and would love to know if anyone has seen something similar or can explain what it might be.
