Gervonta Davis arrested on domestic battery charge over June 15 incident

REIGNING WBA lightweight world champion Gervonta Davis’ future plans could be put on hold following reports that ‘Tank’ has today been arrested for striking his ex-girlfriend. The incident is believed to have taken place on June 15, as detailed in the report. Police information states that Davis was in a previous relationship with the victim.

Outlining the details, Local 10 news’ Digital Executive Producer, Amanda Batchelor, added: “As of Friday morning, Davis was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. His bond was listed in online jail records as ‘to be set’. “

Back in the ring and Davis, 30-0-1 (28 KOs), was upgraded to full WBA world champion in late 2023 following Devin Haney’s decision to move up to the super-lightweight division.

Since then, the Baltimore-born bruiser has made two defences of his 135lb world title, first sensationally halting Frank Martin before heading into a supposedly one-sided clash against WBA super-featherweight titleholder Lamont Roach, 25-1-2 (10 KOs).

Yet, despite many expecting that Davis would comfortably dispose of Roach, it was the latter that left the Barclays Centre feeling shortchanged, with the judges ruling a majority draw in an encounter that Roach believed he had edged.

Consequently, the pair have been in talks for a much-demanded rematch, with an announcement expected imminently. However, Fox Sports’ Andy Slater has now reported that Davis has been arrested for ‘hitting his ex-girlfriend on the back of the head and slapping her’.

The alleged incident has become the latest in a long line of controversies surrounding Davis, including battery allegations and charges.
